The Reinhard Ernst Museum, in cooperation with the DFF, is presenting a film series titled “Wolfgang Hollegha. “Don’t Think, Just Look!”—the first solo museum exhibition in Germany by this exceptional Austrian artist. You can admire the abstract painter’s intense yet airy and light symphonies of color at the mre through October 25, 2026. The film series explores the realities of the painter’s life: he established himself in postwar Vienna, celebrated international success in New York in 1960, and then deliberately retreated to the seclusion of Rechberg near Graz to paint and create there.

Michael Haneke’s *The Seventh Continent* tells the story of an ordinary Austrian family that becomes increasingly alienated from its seemingly orderly everyday life and subsequently makes a radical decision. The film ends with the systematic liquidation of all their possessions, through which Haneke creates a critical examination of consumer society, alienation, and the loss of meaning. Wolfgang Hollega’s life path, too, was based on the far-reaching decision to withdraw from society’s expectations in order to devote himself entirely to painting.
