The three ??? - Isle of the Dead

It was supposed to be a summer without any detective work—or so they thought. In moments like these, it’s best not to answer the phone—a lesson Justus, Peter, and Bob learn the hard way when an unknown caller with a raspy voice presents them with a new case. This leads them on the trail of the secret society Sphinx, which conducts illegal archaeological excavations and sells stolen art treasures. The investigation takes the amateur detectives to the remote volcanic island of Makatao—also known as Death Island. It is said to be the final resting place of an ancient people, which, according to legend, is cursed and spells death for anyone who sets foot on the island.

The video ends with a riddle—the very first Checker question: Who leaves the deepest marks in the soil? Unfortunately, Tobi no longer remembers the answer. So, in true Checker style, he embarks on an elementary journey around the world that takes him to Madagascar, Spitsbergen, and Mexico. Across three continents, he discovers what connects these different soils and finally finds the answer he’s been searching for so long. But we won’t give that away here. In answering the “Checker question,” he’s helped by scientists, good friends, and local people, such as Hanitra, a Madagascan biologist; Malte, a geologist; Samara, a student; Nicolaus, an archaeologist; and a grumpy employee at a recycling center.
